Welcome to the website of the Canadian Racing Team Partnership of Alves / Ganus.  We are
located in Newmarket Ontario, Canada about 30 miles north of Toronto.

Our partnership was formed in 2000
so that Ganus Family Loft birds could
also compete north of the border in the
     largest combine in Canada.

Tony's first pair of birds were bought for
him by his uncle when Tony was about
seven years old.  By the age of ten he
had his first loft built.  It was a 4 x 5 foot
Tony Alves Loft          loft.  He had his first true racing pigeons
at age 13 from his school teacher's
father, Joe Petre.  Joe was one of the top long distance flyers in the Toronto area for many years.  At 16, Tony started
racing his own birds winning several races with only a 7 bird team, including the only day bird in the club from 400 miles.
Then, like most teenagers, cars and girls came into the picture.  At 25 years old Tony married and started acquiring
birds from local fanciers, sometimes spending large money on the so-called "High Eye-Sign Birds".  After only average
results did Tony's very good friend, Bob Bawden, suggest that Tony go visit Mike Ganus of Ganus Family Loft in Indiana.
        The year was 1994.

Tony visited Ganus Family Loft and a special friendship had begun.
Tony had finally arrived at the greatest breeding loft in North America
housing the greatest champions of the world.  He instantly knew that he
must purchase some youngsters from this pigeon colony no matter what
it took.  Later that year the first 10 youngsters arrived in Canada.  Instant
results were seen with the youngsters off the GFL birds beating all of the
other birds in his loft.  Tony automatically knew that he must dispose of
all of his other birds regardless of the cost and concentrate on GFL birds.
Every year Tony continued to purchase more youngbirds from Ganus
        Family Loft.

After traveling with Mike to Holland, Belgium and Germany on four different              Tony Alves and Mike Ganus
occasions, Tony and Mike decided to form a partnership racing and breeding
team in Canada.  Tony decided to move and purchased 2 1/2 acres of property 30 miles north of Toronto and the
construction of a new racing loft began.  Armed with birds off the best Ganus Family Loft pigeons and some direct
Louis Van Loon imports history was soon to be made.

In the 2000 youngbird season the Canadian Racing Team of Alves /
Ganus totally dominated the largest combine in Canada winning
1st Champion Loft in the Up North Pigeon Racing Combine.
Tony and Mike also set a new record for the highest amount of
points ever recorded in the combine.  To top that they had the
2nd, 3rd and 5th Best Youngbird All Canada in the highest Award
Excellence (when only two other birds in Canada qualified.)
This was just the tip of the iceberg to come.  In 2001, the
Canadian GFL Team would win Champion Loft once again.  Not
only in the regular races but also with two teams in the short sprint
along with the 1st Combine Average Speeds and the first 3 champion
Tony, Mike and Louis Janssen in Belgium   combine birds.  Also winning 1st Best Young Bird All Canada along
with 4 other top Ace Youngsters in the top 12 in the country.

In 2002 old birds, we flew a team of yearlings and success followed again with super results.  We placed 5th, 10th and
15th in the National Race and in the big Moosenee Open 500 Mile Race we clocked the 1st and 2nd Place Birds one
       hour out in front.

In the 2002 young bird season our racing team won Champion Loft for the third year in a row. We also won the 1st
Champion Loft Old and Young Birds Combined.  2003 was another banner year winning 1st Champion Loft Old and
Young Birds Combined in the regular races and the sprint races along with 1st Combine Average Speed with Old and
Young Birds Combined.   A new race record had been set!  Not only being the only loft in the U.N.C. - the largest
combine in Canada to win champion young bird loft 4 times, but to win it 4 years in a row.

The 2004 season was another successful year as once again we won Champion Loft Combine Old and Young birds
and 1st Combine Average Speed Old and Young Bird Combined.
